Government Official Says MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has revealed that the MoD is currently examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese vehicles, and staff have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Advice for MoD Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made cars.

He explained that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary cars.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using every cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Security Background

The revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This wider security environment highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of official operations, from transport usage to communication habits.
