Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
